Course Details
Painting in the Woods – 25th–27th AprilCelebrate spring with this woodland painting course, coinciding with the arrival of mesmerising bluebells. The workshop includes painting and drawing directly from observation in the woods near the studio. Participants will collect reference material through drawing, then return to the studio to create artworks. Time spent in the woods will depend on the weather, but a sheltered camp area with a compost toilet is available. The woodland location is less than a mile from the studio.
Painting Light & Water at Pett Level – 30th May–1st June
This workshop focuses on the awe-inspiring coastal scenery of Pett Level, which has inspired artists such as John Everett and featured in several films. Participants will paint and draw from observation, collecting reference material through drawing and photography. The timing coincides with low tide, allowing for a focus on light and reflections in water and sand. Studio sessions will help participants develop their observations into finished artworks.
Painting at Great Dixter Gardens – 13th–15th June
This weekend centres around Great Dixter, a national treasure located less than four miles from the studio. The gardens are renowned for their vibrant, daring designs and their commitment to biodiversity and horticultural education. Participants will sketch and paint directly in the gardens, using charcoal and other materials to create studies on-site. These studies will be developed into larger works in the studio.
