This month we celebrate the elder daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, 90th birthday. Born on the 21th April 1926, Elizabeth II was crowned Queen at the young age of 25, coming to be head of state of the United Kingdom and 15 other Commonwealth realms. She has ruled for more than five decades through enormous social change and development.
The Queen celebrates two birthdays every year, her actual birthday which is a private affair, usually spent with her family and the official one which is commemorated on Saturday 11th June 2016. This milestone is normally full of pomp and circumstance with gun salutes in central London at midday, Hyde Park, Windsor Great Park and the Tower of London. Usually Her Majesty is joined by other members of the Royal Family at the spectacular Trooping of the Colours parade that goes between Buckingham Palace, The Mall and Horse Guard’s Parade.
This year The Mint has produced an unique £5 coin in honour of the Queen’s forthcoming 90th birthday and it will be presented for free to pensioners who turn 90 on the same day as Her Majesty.
If you are ever lucky to meet Queen Elizabeth II, the traditional way of greeting is if you are a men will be a neck bow whilst for women a small curtsy. You never know when she may drop by for a cup of tea. So with that in mind Flackley Ash Hotel are offering those taking the “High Tea” in the lounge, conservatory or mature gardens of the hotel, throughout April, May and June, a free glass of bubbles to toast this festive occasion in honour of our Queen.
